Learner Levels
Students earn the opportunity to participate in activities and events by demonstrating they have reached a specific Learner Level.
As a student at Hui LA’AU, you have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities and adventures. Your ability to participate depends on your behavior at school, your work ethic (both school work and physical work), and your attitude (towards school, your peers, and your instructors).
All students attending Hui LA’AU are expected to meet the Education Level throughout the school year. If you are a student who engages in time-consuming activities outside of school (sports, circus, etc.) or a student who is still learning the required skills to be self-motivated, think critically, and take responsibility for your learning, you may remain at this level all year. That is perfectly fine – the point is to strive to the level that fits you and your goals. If you wish to participate in off-campus, daylong activities (rainforest restoration, water quality testing, etc.), you will need to establish you meet the requirements of the Explorer Level. If you wish to attend overnight campouts and other high-level off-campus activities, you will need to establish you meet the requirements of the Expedition Level.
Students may request evaluation to determine their Learner Level at any time. They must request a meeting with the Hui LA’AU instructors and bring documentation of their achievements. Don’t be discouraged…go for it!
